So you started a blog and now what? That’s exactly what I said to myself.
I’m going to share with you 6 things that I learned my first month blogging.
OMG. Yep I finally did it…
I never in a million years thought I would be writing; let alone writing about blogging. I honestly never put any thought into it nor had the courage to do it. I took the plunge the beginning of April…EEK!
To be honest with you, I was scared as hell to do this. I thought there is NO way that I COULD do this. But look at me now – writing about what I learned my first month blogging. I absolutely love it!!
Truth be told, I still have A LOT to learn and I am NOT an expert at this.
However, I am very pleased with what I have accomplished so far. It is with posts like this one, that have inspired me and helped me to grow.
So…. here are 6 things I have learned from my first month blogging.
It’s HARD Work – but well Worth IT!
I am not going to sugar coat it. It is very hard work. Anyone who tells you otherwise it lying to you. Period.
There were times that I wanted to give in. Do NOT give up. If you keep pushing forward, it will be well worth it. I promise.
Although it can be challenging at times, I have learned so much about myself. I’ve researched alot. Trust me – ALOT! There will be times that you will come across something that you don’t know what to do or how to do it and that is OK. Seriously! I am STILL learning – but having fun doing it!
If you are willing to work for it and put in the time and effort – you WILL succeed!
Connect With Other Bloggers
As an amateur, you will find that the more experienced bloggers are going to be your best friend. I am not kidding – they know a TON of stuff! They have taught me things I didn’t know the answer to and were so helpful and so kind. There are several blogging groups on Facebook that I am in.
And the nice part?!? Everyone is willing to help!
I highly recommend checking out some of the Facebook groups. You will not be disappointed.
Finding a Niche
This I struggled with for a while. There were so many things that I wanted to write about. I just didn’t know where to start.
I thought of things that I was good at or had experience with. The first thing that came to mind was saving money and dieting. I am always looking for ways to save money and it seems like I am always trying the newest “fad” diet. HA!
Then I thought about it some more and what I really wanted to do was to help people – in all areas of life. Which brings me to this article…
When thinking of your niche, don’t choose something to write about because you think you will make money from it. Be sure that you enjoy the topic. If you don’t enjoy the topic, your readers will notice!
You want people to find your blog – am I right? Of course you do!! Then you will need to use Pinterest to promote it. I never looked at Pinterest as a search engine, but it totally is. I have been using Pinterest for years and never made the connection that the pins were linked to a blog. DUH! Pinning and sharing pins will help to increase traffic to your site. You will also want to get access to Pinterest boards, so you can share your pins with people who don’t follow you.
Tailwind Is A MUST
As I mentioned above, Pinterest is a great search engine that can drive traffic to your blog. Pinterest loves members who pin constantly, it is how their site keeps going. You will need to be pinning content in your niche at least 50 to 100 times a day.
Who has time for that?!?!
Don’t get me wrong, I love Pinterest as much as you do – but I simply do not have the time to pin that much every day!
This is where Tailwind comes in. Tailwind is a scheduler for your Pinterest pins. Using Tailwind, you can schedule pins to be shared throughout the day, making sure your profile has a constant pinning activity.
What is great about Tailwind is that it has a free trial that lets you pin 100 pins for free and they will schedule them four times a day!

I used the free trial and I thought it was great! All I had to do was find pins, schedule them and I am done. Within my first week I had new people following my Pinterest boards and sharing my Pins!
WOW! I was so impressed that I signed up for the full paid version of Tailwind. I did this so I could utilize Tailwind to its full potential – to be able to pin unlimited.
If you came here from Pinterest, this is an example that it works!
I highly recommend that you sign up for Tailwind. If you are skeptical like me, you can use my link below and get your first month free!
Choosing Your Hosting Site
If you are serious about blogging, then you will need to have a hosted site. When your site is hosted, it means that you own the site such as (www.example.com). Unless you pay for your domain, you’ll have a WordPress domain added onto yours, such as (www.example.blogspot.com). A blog is taken seriously by search engines and by readers when the site is hosted.
I decided to go with SiteGround. I cannot recommend them enough. Their services are super affordable ( has to be for my cheap ass to choose them! haha!) and their customer service is top notch.
So why go with SiteGround?
There are a lot of hosts to choose from but Siteground is by far the best out there!
They Have Support 24/7
If you have issues or questions, they are there to help you instantly! Day or Night!
You don’t have to wait hours to get in touch with someone and they have several ways you can contact them.
They Solve Issues Within Minutes – NOT Hours
How amazing is that?!?! I have only had to reach out for help twice (how to cache my site and question on a plugin), and they resolved my issue within 7 minutes! You can’t ask for more quality service than this!
They have an AMAZING uptime!
With SiteGround, you will have incredible uptime at almost 100%
This is crucial! I know I wouldn’t want to have a blog that is not up ALL the time. You could miss potential readers!
If you are wanting to start your self-hosted site and want to save a little money doing it, SiteGround has given me a special referral link that drops the price to just $3.99 a month!
You can’t beat that! All you have to do is sign up using my special link, and you will save 60% off the regular price! That’s a lot of money you can save!!!
The reason is pretty simple – if you want to build a blog that is taken seriously by search engines and readers, you will want to have a hosted site.
So there’s 6 things that I learned my first month of blogging. I hope this post was helpful to you and that I have inspired you to take a chance and follow your dreams. I know that you can start an amazing blog.
